Two near-simultaneous explosions occured on 17 July at the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels in the Mega Kuningan area of the capital Jakarta. At least nine people, including one foreigner, had been killed and at least 40 others, including 14 foreigners, injured. Reports indicate that the explosions occurred at restaurants located on the lower levels of the hotels. Also, the Plaza Mutiara building adjacent to the Marriott was impacted by the explosion. The police have sealed off areas in the vicinity of both hotels. Details about the attacks are still emerging.
A third explosion occured in the Muara Angke area in the north of the capital Jakarta. Reports indicate that a car bomb was detonated at a toll gate in the area, killing at least two people. The authorities have deployed security personnel to the site.

The Allied Banking Corp. (Allied Bank), along with two key institutions in their respective fields, has launched two credit cards stamped with "world" class status.
The Philippine Airlines (PAL) and MasterCard locked arms with Allied Bank to introduce the Platinum Class and World Class plastic money said to be the most premium class designed to outweigh competition.
Allied Bank's first vice president and Card Center head Fol Rana Jr. said that they expect their card base to balloon to 70,000 with the new introductions from 25,000.
